High School Equivalency/GED
Congratulations! You are taking one of the most important steps of your life earning your GED (General Equivalency Diploma) credential! Millions of people like you have taken the GED to get a better job, continue their education, or to feel better about themselves. The GED tests measure your knowledge and academic skills against those of today's traditional high school graduates.
Even better news, the GED fee is now being waived if you work with your local Gateway/KYAE office!

Yes, Gateway recognizes your scores on the GED® Test! The GED® College Ready + Credit designation is awarded for scores in the highest performance level (175–200) on any of the four GED® subject tests: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, or Social Studies.
This score demonstrates that you have not only mastered high school content but have also shown readiness for college-level coursework. Gateway awards college credit based on these scores. This saves you time and money as you move toward your degree!
You can be awarded the following credits based on your scores in the subject areas:
| GED® Test | Score | Credits Awarded | General Education Category | Courses Awarded |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematical | 175 – 200 | 3 | College-Level Math | TRN 140 Math Gen Ed |
| Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) | 175 – 200 | 1 | Humanities | TRN 110 Humanities Gen Ed |
| Science | 175 – 200 | 3 | Natural Science (Lecture) | TRN 130 Science Gen Ed |
| Social Studies | 175 – 200 | 3 | Social Behavioral Science | TRN 120 Social/Behavioral Science Gen Ed |
These credits fulfill General Education requirements – you can talk with our admissions and advising teams to learn more about how to build your academic plan around these credits.
