No Show Information
What Does “No Show” Mean at Gateway?
Gateway follows KCTCS rules that require instructors to report students who do not attend or participate at the start of a class. If you are reported as a no show, you may be dropped from the class.
Important Timing
- No shows are reported 6 days after the first day of the session (by 6:00 PM).
- This applies to all class sessions listed on the academic calendar.
- After the add period ends, students are usually not added back into a class.
What Counts as a No Show?
In-Person or Remote (Live) Classes
You are a no show if you do not attend class at least once during the first 6 days of the session.
Online Classes
You are a no show if you do not complete an academic activity within the first 6 days.
Logging into Blackboard alone does NOT count.
Examples of academic activity:
- Submitting an assignment
- Taking a quiz, exam, or interactive activity
- Participating in an academic discussion
- Contacting your instructor with questions about course content
Hybrid Classes (In-Person + Online or Live Remote)
You are a no show if you do not complete an academic activity within the first 6 days.
Academic activity can include:
- Attending the in-person or live remote class
- Submitting an assignment
- Taking a quiz or exam
- Participating in online discussions or contacting your instructor
Bottom Line
- Attend class or complete an academic activity right away"
- Do this within the first 6 days
- Logging in without participating is not enough
If you’re unsure what counts for your class, contact your instructor immediately to avoid being dropped.
