Student Awards
The Dean’s List recognizes the academic excellence of students according to the KCTCS Rules of Senate for the fall semester, spring semester and summer term.
For the Fall and Spring semesters, a full-time Gateway student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and successfully complete 12 hours or more of course work numbered 100 or above for the academic term being recognized.
A part-time Gateway student must complete three to 11 credits of course work numbered 100 and above for the academic term being recognized and earn a cumulative 3.5 GPA after successfully completing a cumulative total of at least 15 KCTCS semester credits of course work numbered 100 and above.
For the summer semester, a Gateway student must earn at least a 3.5 GPA after successfully completing six hours or more of course work numbered 100 or above for the academic term being recognized.
Please note that the above KCTCS Senate Rules criteria replaces the misprint in the student catalog.
Gateway hosts two in‑person Dean’s List celebrations each year to recognize student academic achievement. The Spring & Summer Celebration is held in October. The Fall Celebration is held in March.
Eligible students receive an official invitation four weeks before the event. Invitations are sent to students’ KCTCS email accounts and include full event details with an RSVP link.
Gateway understands that in-person participation may not be possible for all students. To ensure every student is recognized, all Dean’s List students receive a congratulatory letter and a link to download their digital certificate the day after the celebration, regardless of attendance.
A student committee forms annually to manage the Student Choice Awards process that recognizes outstanding performance by faculty and staff. Students nominate faculty and staff members for the awards, which are announced at commencement. To be nominated, faculty and staff members must:
- Express respect, care and genuine concern for students;
- Create an atmosphere where students can participate in their learning experience;
- Go above and beyond normal expectations that students have for faculty and staff.
The student committee forms annually in the spring. If you are interested in serving, contact Sarah Young at (859) 442-1639.
