Where: BB&T Arena at Northern Kentucky University,

500 Louie B. Nunn Drive

Directions: Visit here for direction information.

Parking: Free parking is available for graduates in Lot O. Park in Lot O and follow the signage to the graduate entrance on the East side of the arena. Your guests will go in through the main entrance of BB&T Arena.

Show up on time and dressed in your cap and gown! As you enter (no later than 6 p.m., please!) check in at the “grad table,” and you will receive a card with a number indicating your exact spot in the line-up. A photographer will snap your photo. Then you will go to the staging area to get in line. As the procession starts, you will march to your seat in the auditorium. When the time comes, the ushers will direct you to the stage. You’ll walk across the platform, and Dr. Figueroa will hand you a credential folder. We’ll take your photo, again. After everyone receives a folder, the class of 2018 will march out.

Caps and gowns are required for graduates. These can be purchased at the Boone campus bookstore beginning April 6. See here for hours and more information. The price for the cap, gown and tassel is $36.98 plus tax. Extra tassels can be purchased for $6.98 plus tax.

Honor cords are provided to eligible degree and diploma graduates when you arrive at the convention center. You do not need to purchase honor cords. If you are eligible for an honor stole from a student organization such as Phi Theta Kappa, please check with the group’s advisor prior to graduation about obtaining a stole.

If you want, you can order graduation announcements from herffjones.com/college. Please allow three to four weeks for delivery. Graduation announcements are not required. Class rings are available as well. There is no requirement to order a ring.

You must arrive at BB&T Arena in your cap and gown no later than 6 p.m. to register and line up for the processional.  Caps and gowns are required to march in commencement exercises. Black gowns should be worn over your attire. Caps must be worn level and straight with the tassel on the right side of the cap.

Men should wear dress pants, shirts, shoes and ties. Women should wear dress pants/skirts/shirts or dresses and dress flats or low heels. For purposes of comfort and safety, we strongly discourage wearing stiletto heels. You’re going to be on your feet a long time. Wear comfortable shoes!

Do not wear sandals, flip-flops or gym shoes. Don’t carry flowers, purses or any other items into the ceremony. Leave them with friends or family until after you march out. You cannot put items under the seats.

Bring as little as possible to graduation as there is no place to leave your items.

No tickets are required for friends and family! Please share this information with your guests to make their experience more enjoyable!

On commencement night, doors to the arena will open for guests to be seated at 6 p.m. Graduates march into the arena in two rows; it is impossible to predict exactly where any graduate will be in the processional.

Tell your family that you can meet them after the ceremony in the lobby outside the auditorium. You’ll be in the recessional all the way out of the arena with no chance to stop.  All graduates are expected to stay for the entire ceremony.  Out of consideration for others, please DO NOT move about the room during the ceremony.

It is very important for safety reasons for guests to avoid blocking the aisles. Ushers are authorized to ask guests to leave these areas open for graduate movement.

Ushers are authorized to ask guests to remain in their seats. Children are to be supervised by an adult at all times.

  • To get your credential, ushers will direct each row to rise, one row at a time.

  • During the recessional, do not stop walking until you are all the way out of the arena.

Your photo will be taken by GradImages before the ceremony while the processional is being formed.
