When the Saints Go Marching In, Gateway Students Can Join Them
Drum roll please! Gateway Community & Technical College students have an opportunity
to be founding members this fall of The Marching Saints, Thomas More Colleges new
TMC is forming the band to perform at all home football games next fall. To join the band, Gateway students need only to enroll in a one-credit hour fine art course through the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities. The course is offered at Gateway tuition rates.
This is an amazing opportunity for our students to participate in a college band, said Shellie Baker, Gateway coordinator for student success and engagement. Instruments, uniforms and equipment will be provided by Thomas More College. But interested Gateway students need to enroll quickly for the fall semester to sign up for the class, since the availability of some instruments is limited.
Elliott Nickeson said the band will practice at TMC three afternoons a week for 90 minutes, and there will be opportunities for color guard, dancers and twirlers.
Nickeson is coordinator of recruitment for performing arts and assistant director
of bands at Thomas More College.
Participating in the band is a great way for students to become involved at Thomas More, particularly if they are interested in transferring to the college after completing an associate degree at Gateway, said Mike Rosenberg, Gateway director of transfer. Under TMCs Four is MORE program, Gateway associate degree graduates are eligible for scholarships up to $14,000 a year from Thomas More. The band can give them an immediate opportunity to get in the swing of things.
