Gateway Speech Team performs well at the 2017 KFA State Championship Tournament
The Gateway Community & Technical College speech team took home several awards from the 2017 Kentucky Forensics Association (KFA) Tournament, finishing in second place overall.
Abby Dyer won Top Novice in Impromptu Speaking. Katie Curry won Top Community College competitor in Program Oral Interpretation and sixth place in Dramatic Interpretation. Katie Daniels won fifth place Novice NPDA Speaker and Top Community College competitor in Poetry Interpretation. Sawyer Edelbroich won Top Community College Competitor in Radio Broadcasting and was honored as one of four Harlan Hamm Award winners at this year’s KFA.
The team tournament highlight was Katie Curry and Katie Daniels’ win of state champions in Duo Interpretation, ahead of three teams from Western Kentucky University and two from the University of Kentucky.
Overall, the team finished in second place in both NPDA Debate and second place in Individual Events in the Community College Division.
“This event was a great cap to our season,” said Gateway director of forensics and associate professor, Randy DeBerry.
