Get the hands on experience you need to design, maintain and use different computing technologies.
What is Computer Information Technology?
Computer Information Technology (CIT) is the foundation of nearly every modern industry. It’s the field behind the systems that power businesses, secure sensitive data, support remote work, and connect the world through networks, applications, and cloud services. Professionals in CIT design, manage, and support the technologies that organizations depend on every day.
Gateway’s Computer Information Technology program offers the hands-on training and real-world experience you need to start or advance your career in IT. Whether you’re interested in cybersecurity, networking, programming, or cloud technologies, our flexible program prepares you to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world.
CIT students at Gateway can study fully online in virtual labs or take advantage of on-campus, hands-on training at our newly equipped CIT lab on the Boone Campus in Florence, KY. With access to up-to-date equipment and personalized support from experienced faculty, you’ll build practical skills that employers value.
Our associate degree in CIT gives you the tools to stand out in today’s job market. You’ll learn directly from faculty with deep industry experience and benefit from small class sizes that support your individual learning. Many students also complete an internship or a capstone project, helping them gain real-world experience and make professional connections before graduation.
Our courses are regularly updated to reflect current industry needs and are aligned with CompTIA, Microsoft, and LPI certifications, ensuring that you gain skills that are both relevant and respected in the job market.
Gateway’s partnerships with leading regional employers mean our students have unique opportunities to explore careers and build networks. Graduates have gone on to work for companies like Encore Technologies, Red Hawk Technologies, Nexigen, and St. Elizabeth Healthcare Information Services—some even landing mid-level roles straight out of the program thanks to Gateway’s applied learning approach. Credit for Prior Learning
If you have industry certifications, these can accelerate your time to degree completion! New students with industry certifications through Cisco, CompTIA, LPI, or Microsoft should mention these during their initial advising appointment to receive credit for prior learning. A listing of currently aligned industry credentials can be found here: https://kctcs.edu/education-training/prior-learning/standards-for-awarding-credit/industry-credentials-and-licensures.aspx
Students who are already working in-field may be eligible for credit depending on their job duties and demonstrable skills. Industry certifications are preferred markers of competence in the field, but students can also request credit by portfolio.
