There are many moving pieces related to dual credit. We work with multiple high schools,
and high schools may work with multiple post-secondary institutions. High school and
college calendars are not aligned. What’s more, administrators and educators need
to keep track of numerous college and scholarship policies, guidelines and deadlines.
We’ve put together this page to provide our partners with the information they need
to navigate the dual credit system. Together, we can build a strong partnership and
create a successful experience for our students.
Interested in Becoming an Affiliate Instructor for Gateway?
An affiliate is someone who has been approved by a KCTCS sponsor to access student
information. An affiliate instructor is approved by an Academic Dean to either teach
Gateway Dual Credit course off-site (usually at a high school) as a credentialed instructor
or be embedded in an online Gateway course as a Supplemental Instructor.
Difference Between a Credentialed Dual Credit Instructor and a Supplemental Instructor
Credentialed Dual Credit Instructor – is the sole instructor of the dual credit course.
This course is happening off-site (usually at a high school) and the instructor is
credentialed through KCTCS
Supplemental Instructor – is embedded in an online Gateway class as a tutor but is
not the sole instructor. They are often working with dual credit students at their
high school to support them as they take an online Gateway dual credit course.
Two Main Points of Approval:
An interested instructor must apply and be approved to teach a Dual Credit Gateway
course at an off-site location. This is done through the Departmental Dean.
The off-site location must be approved and follow specific guidelines set forth by
SACS
