Raise The Floor
Raise the Floor (RTF) addresses a critical need that our region is facing regarding the skills gap relating to the manufacturing industry. One of the primary barriers to women's economic self-sufficiency is acquiring the necessary training and education to secure livable wages. Many women do not consider manufacturing as a career option due to misconceptions of the types of careers available to them in this industry sector, and limited role models of women who have chosen this career pathway. Raise the Floor seeks to confront these myths and perceptions of women in Manufacturing through education and training. The program is dedicated to increasing the pipeline of workers into advanced manufacturing careers as well as increasing the economic vitality of women in the region. It has provided hundreds of educational workshops to the community and utilized tens of thousands of dollars to remove non-academic barriers for participants of the program; all in an effort to shed light on the career opportunities for women available within the manufacturing industry.
The program provides training and certification in manufacturing skills. Women who succeed in the program may apply for a manufacturing job after just four months. The program assists with developing the support systems such as transportation, childcare, job placement and career services. A 16-week program, RTF offers a flexible class schedule that helps prepare you for entry-level jobs in manufacturing. Classes include the Enhanced Operator Certificate course, which leads to a regionally recognized certification. The Enhanced Operator course is a 16-week training program designed by local employers to satisfy the skill-set needed to fill positions at their companies. The course uses a convenient online learning model with flexible lab schedule options and also allows you to test out of modules based on your knowledge and experience. Raise the Floor offers scholarships for tuition and course fees to eligible candidates.
