A Message Regarding 2021 Commencement
Published on Mar 17, 2021
Congratulations on your achievements! You’ve shown great resilience throughout this unprecedented time.
Regarding the 2021 commencement ceremony, we are faced with the challenge of hosting large, in-person gatherings. We have decided to host a drive thru celebration at our Boone Campus for our 2020 and 2021 graduates on May 13.
During the drive thru celebration, you will be able to exit your car, receive your credential cover, shake hands with (if comfortable) and get a professional photograph taken with the college president (me). Your guests will be able to watch from their vehicle, similar to a drive-in movie.
Those who participate will be asked to wear a mask. Caps and gowns are not required but are welcome.
You can purchase a cap and gown from the Gateway Bookstore. The bookstore offers online ordering of regalia. You can order a cap and gown here.
Regardless of your participation in the drive thru celebration, your credential will be mailed to you.
Be on the lookout for more information regarding our drive thru celebration in early April.
This decision was made in the best interest of you, our graduating students, your families, and our entire Gateway community, and reflects the input of our college leadership.
I would like to sincerely apologize for not being able to offer you the large, in-person ceremony. I wish nothing more than to celebrate you with the pomp and circumstance you deserve.
Congratulations class of 2021. Your accomplishments during this time are nothing short of amazing. We are proud of you and your success.
Sincerely,
Dr. Fernando Figueroa
President
