Scholarship opportunity for early childhood teachers or those interested in field
Published on Oct 6, 2021
Early childhood teachers who are employed by a Kentucky state-licensed childcare program or within a Kentucky certified in-home family childcare are now eligible for a full-tuition scholarship to earn any Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education credential.
Locally, the scholarship can be used at Gateway Community & Technical College. After students earn a credential at Gateway, they can continue to earn a bachelor’s degree, tuition free.
The Division of Child Care will be paying for full-time tuition as grant funds are available between January 2022 and September 2024. Scholarship participants will be required to work at least 20 hours per week in a licensed early childhood setting.
Gateway offers various transfer options and evening and hybrid courses.
“We are so excited about this new funding. This scholarship will provide our Early Childhood Education students a chance to graduate with a degree debt-free,” said Dr. Sarah Smith, Gateway associate professor and program coordinator. “Students in our program will be able to work part-time or full-time during the day and take remote classes from Gateway at night from home. Ultimately, this will increase high quality early childhood education experiences for children, families, and teachers."
Those who are interested in the scholarship will need to contact local Child Care Aware Professional Development Coach Hallie Barth at Hallie.email@example.com or 859-442-4161.
The deadline for applying for spring semester 2022 is Nov. 15, 2021.
