Get Heart Smart at Gateway

High blood pressure is called the silent killer because people often don't realize they have it, and it can lead to heart disease and strokes. The nursing faculty at Gateway Community & Technical College is offering free blood pressure screenings to students, faculty and staff in November to help identify people at risk for heart disease. All participants will be entered in a prize drawing to win a $25 Visa gift card.

The Get Heart Smart program will provide participants with their blood pressure numbers and teach them how to modify their behavior to decrease their chance of heart disease. Blood pressure screenings will be conducted from 10 a.m. to noon in the following locations on the specified dates:

Nov. 13 and 21: Boone Campus, Center for Advanced Manufacturing, Room B208 (HR Conference Room)
Nov. 13 and 21: Edgewood Campus, Nursing and Allied Health Building, Room 213
Nov. 14 and 25: Covington Campus Cafeteria
Nov. 20: Urban Center, Room 300

Participants determined to be at risk will be eligible for a follow-up screening in February.
