Gateway's student run business logo unveiled

Gateway Community & Technical College unveiled today the logo for Emerge Hair Studio and Spa, a new student run business to open in downtown Covington this fall.

The naming process for this business began with diverse focus groups made up of students, employees and community members. The final name was then tested through an online survey that was open to the community.

In phase II a logo/mark contest was created for the logo design. A rubric, rules and guidelines were developed, and students and graphic design professionals were invited to submit original designs. A team of internal representatives and external experts chose the winning logo.

The design of Eugene Heard, a Covington resident and designer, was selected. His concept is inspired by the ripple created from a drop of water.

"Like a single drop creates ripples, everything starts from each students hand, said Eugene Heard of the logo design. For the student, Emerge Hair Studio and Spa will be the place to learn how to use techniques to provide great moments. The identity represents the power of single student."

This fall, cosmetology and massage therapy students will learn and work in a new state-of-the-art hair studio and spa in downtown Covington, said Dr. G. Edward Hughes, President/CEO Gateway Community & Technical College. Our student run business, Emerge, will be the real world classroom for Gateway students. We are excited about this opportunity for them and the expansion of our Urban Metro Campus in Covington.

Students may earn an Associate Degree along with cosmetology or massage therapy licensure and get hands on experience operating a business from marketing to sales to client retention through excellent service.
