Gateway's New Instructional Design Program To Be Offered Entirely Online This Fall

Gateway Community & Technical College will begin offering its Instructional Design and Learning Technology (IDL) program 100 percent online beginning with the fall semester that starts Aug. 19.

While we will continue to offer the program via traditional classroom instruction at our facility at Odd Fellows Hall in Covington, the online delivery will offer maximum flexibility for students to complete credentials anytime, anywhere, said Josh Heinrich, IDL instructor.

The IDL program, introduced last spring, is the first of its kind at the associate degree level in the country. Now we are continuing to break new ground by offering our entire program via eight-week online classes, said Heinrich. We are really proud of what we've created. IDL is really a top-notch program where students can get hands-on experience in creating and designing instruction, and do it completely online.

The IDL program prepares participants for entry-level instructional design or corporate training positions that pay $30,000 to $35,000 a year directly out of the IDL program. More experienced instructional designers and corporate trainers earn much more.

The program is targeted at individuals of all skill levels and backgrounds who are looking to build careers developing instructional content in an educational or corporate setting and using a variety of delivery modes, said Heinrich. E-learning is an exploding field, and our program provides the background to work in it.
