Gateway's GED program named in Kentuckys top five for diploma attainment

Gateway Community & Technical Colleges Boone County General Equivalency Diploma (GED) program was recognized by Kentucky Adult Education (KYAE) as one of five top performers in student attainment of the GED.

"We are very pleased that the Boone County Adult Education program, part of Gateway since 2012, has been recognized by KY Adult Education (KYAE) as one of the top performing programs in 2015, said Peg Russell Gateway Regional Director of Adult Education and COMPASS. The Boone County program has consistently been in the top five all year, so we were not surprised to find that we had earned this honor. These instructors are dedicated to student success and work hard, creating a learning environment that is both comfortable and productive.

Each year KY Adult Education, a unit of the Council on Postsecondary Education, sets performance goals for each county program. One of the most important goals for programs is the number of individuals who prepare for and pass the new GED exam. As part of a promotional program, KYAE challenged all 120 county programs to make every effort to increase the number of Kentuckians passing the GED by December 31, 2015. As a reward, the top five programs in GED attainment would receive $4500 to send up to three instructors to the National Council on Adult Basic Education conference in Dallas, Texas. When they attend the April conference, they will have the opportunity to network with providers from around the country and learn best practices in adult education programs.

Gateway meets students where they are, and helps them get where they want to be. This recognition is evidence of the faculty and staffs commitment to this mission, said Dr. Keith Bird, Gateway Interim President/CEO. Congratulations to our students and the hard working faculty and staff who helped them attain their goals in 2015.
