Gateway Summer Sessions Begin May 19
Summer school at Gateway Community & Technical College begins May 19 and features
five different sessions that can help students get an early start on college or catch
up on needed classes.
Summer school is a great way for students to speed their time to degree, said Andre
Washington, dean of enrollment services. Summer classes offer an early start to rising
freshmen and time savings to current students. Because our credits transfer, college
students who are home for the summer can get required general education classes out
of the way at a tuition cost typically 50 percent less than their home university.
Previous home-for-the-summer students find course content and quality of instruction
in Gateway summer courses equal to the classes at their home universities.
The classes were challenging, especially math, says Lauren Vasseur of Union. Vasseur
is an exercise science major at Morehead State University and hopes to transfer to
the University of Cincinnati for a graduate degree in physical therapy. But the teachers
were good; they are very willing to work with you and help you succeed. Honestly,
I didn't notice any difference in the. I would recommend Gateway classes to anyone.
Gateway has five-week, six-week and 10-week summer sessions beginning May 19. An
eight-week session begins June 2, and another five-week session starts June 23. Classes
take place at Gateway locations in Covington, Florence and Edgewood. Online classes
also are available in a 10-week term that starts May 19 and an eight-week session
beginning June 2. Enrollment is currently underway.
The college offers general education courses that may be most attractive to new students,
such as rising freshmen, or students like Vasseur who want to transfer courses back
to their home college. Gen-ed courses this summer include history, humanities, speech,
writing, sign language, biology, ecology, anatomy/physiology, geology, algebra, applied
mathematics, trigonometry, statistics, psychology, and sociology.
Currently enrolled Gateway students may be the most interested in core-requirement
courses in allied health, computer and information technology, computerized manufacturing
and machining, cosmetology, criminal justice, electrical technology, emergency medical
services, health information technology, human services, instructional design and
learning technology, interdisciplinary early childhood education, medical assisting,
medical information technology, nursing assistant, phlebotomy and visual communication.
