Gateway Students to Join Major KCTCS Rally in Frankfort Thursday

A sea of bright yellow shirts and the faces of students of all ages will be visible at the Kentuckians for Community and Technical Colleges rally at the state capitol rotunda in Frankfort on February 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Everyone is invited to attend the rally and hear the voices of students from across the Commonwealth, including more than 50 students, faculty and staff from Gateway Community & Technical College.

These students represent more than 8,000 people who have signed the Kentucky Community and Technical College System petition in support of keeping higher education accessible to grow our economy and to help Kentuckians find high-wage, high-growth jobs.

We are honored that Governor Steve Beshear will attend our rally and issue a proclamation, designating February 25, 2010, as Kentucky Community and Technical College System Day in Kentucky, said KCTCS President Michael B. McCall. The rally is a crucial way for KCTCS stakeholders to express their support of our role in providing citizens with the critical skills needed for jobs in today's competitive marketplace.

More than half of the undergraduate students in the state attend KCTCS. It is the place where higher education begins for most Kentuckians. KCTCS operates 16 colleges on 68 campuses, including Gateway campuses in Covington/Park Hills, Edgewood and Boone County. KCTCS campuses are within a 30-minute drive of most Kentuckians, thereby providing citizens with easy access to higher education.

Join the rally at the capitol on February 25 and let your voice be heard. KCTCS is essential to Kentuckys economic recovery.
