Gateway Students Research A First At State Science Meeting

Rachele Johnson of Edgewood, Kentucky, a sophomore at Gateway Community & Technical College, will make history November 13 when she becomes Gateway's first student to present research at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky. She will present an overview of her research project, The Affects of Gender and Age on Soda Formula and Logo Preferences.

Johnson conducted her research at Gateway during the fall 2010 semester. She is a sophomore pursuing an Associate Degree in Science and plans to study psychology at a four-year university. She is also the vice president of service for Gateway's Beta Pi Tau chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international academic honorary.

Her faculty advisor, Dr. Tom Sproat, said funding for Racheles research project was supplied in part by BIOSE, a science education outreach organization based in northern Kentucky.
