Gateway Students Have a New Opportunity for Success

Gateway Community & Technical College is expanding student success services by offering open tutoring for writing papers and improving writing skills for students, beginning, January 18.

Writing tutors will be available to help students find a topic, organize their papers, cite sources, avoid plagiarism, and use correct grammar and punctuation to successfully write a required paper for any Gateway course.

This service is designed to help all Gateway students regardless of their skill level, said Melissa Fry, associate professor of English at Gateway. Whether they need help on a paper from start to finish or just someone to help check for typos, we are here for our students, Fry said.

This new tutoring service adds to a long list of student success services at Gateway. Such services as teaching how to improve study skills, prepare for tests or perform library research are aimed at helping students graduate and move on to the job market or transfer to pursue a four-year degree.

The new writing tutoring sessions will be offered by the Division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, in partnership with Gateway Tutoring Services and are available Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gateway's Edgewood Campus, 790 Thomas More Parkway.
