Gateway Seeking Northern Kentucky Applicants for Advanced Manufacturing Scholarship
Gateway Community & Technical College is reaching out to Northern Kentucky school
systems to seek applicants for eight scholarships aimed at students interested in
advanced manufacturing careers.
Partners for a Competitive Workforce and Duke Energy will award the scholarships to
eight high school juniors or seniors who can enroll in a Certified Production Technician
course to be taught at Gateway's Boone Campus beginning in February 2015.
The scholarships, valued at $2,250 each, will provide for tuition, books and assessments
associated with the course, which is endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers.
Students who complete this six-credit-hour course and pass all four assessments will
earn a nationally recognized, industry-driven Certified Production Technician credential,
said Carissa Schutzman, Gateway dean of Workforce Solutions. The CPT credential is
widely accepted by manufacturers as an excellent pre-apprenticeship or pre-hire foundation
course in manufacturing skills.
Scholarship applicants must be a current high school junior or senior, be able to
take the course next spring, attend a high school in Duke Energys service area, have
an overall grade point average of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be planning to
pursue a career in advanced manufacturing.
Schutzman said the course will be taught at Gateway's Center for Advanced Manufacturing
in Florence on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:45 p.m. from Feb. 3 to May 7.
Students interested in applying for the scholarship should contact their high school
principals or Carissa.schutzman@kctcs.edufor an application and procedures. Applications are due by Dec. 1 and will only be
accepted by email.
