Gateway Observes Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Through Community Discussion of Talk To Me
Gateway Community & Technical College will commemorate the birthday of Dr. Martin
Luther King., Jr., by presenting the 2007 film Talk To Me at the Kenton County Public
Library, Mary Ann Mongan Branch, at 502 Scott Blvd. in Covington Jan. 17 from 3 to
5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Talk To Me is a biographical film starring Don Cheadle as Washington, D.C., radio
personality Ralph Petey Greene, an ex-con who becomes a popular talk show host and
community activist. The movie depicts his life between May 1966 and January 1984 and
spotlights Greenes on-air reaction to the assassination of Dr. King. Reviewing the
film upon its release in 2007, the late Roger Ebert noted that Greene spoke reasonably,
from the heart and from his life, of the uselessness of violence.
The event is sponsored by Gateway's Office of Inclusion and Cultural Initiatives and
will include a post-film discussion comparing the leadership of Dr. King to that of
the late Nelson Mandela.
The film is rated R and is suitable for mature audiences only. For additional information,
