
Gateway kicks off Big Read on International Literacy Day
Gateway Community & Technical College celebrates International Literacy Day with the
kick-off of its NEA Big Read community project on Sept. 8, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Center for Technology, Innovation and Enterprise (TIE) building at the Urban
Metro Campus, 516 Madison Ave.
Students, faculty, staff and the community are welcome to the kick-off celebration
that will feature music, food, giveaways and free copies of the Big Read novel, A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines, while supplies last.
Gateway Community & Technical College is one of 77 nonprofit organizations to receive
a grant to host an NEA Big Read project between September 2016 and June 2017. The
Gateway/NEA Big Read will focus on Ernest Gaines A Lesson Before Dying. Libraries,
classrooms and public venues will host Big Read events beginning Sept. 8 Nov. 18,
2016.
The college is partnering with six public libraries Boone, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton
and Owen Counties in Kentucky and Hamilton County in Ohio and dozens of educators,
community organizations and media outlets in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky
region to bring approximately 25 activities around A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest
Gaines during the fall of 2016 throughout the region.

Free parking for the kick-off is available in the Midtown City Garage located at
5th and Scott Blvd. with validated tickets. Parking validation is available inside
the TIE building in the UB106 office area near the elevator.
