Gateway Hosts Veteran and Technical Student Fair April 25

Gateway Community & Technical College will conduct a veteran and technical student fair April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at the colleges Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The event is designed to acquaint current or prospective students with technical and manufacturing careers. Representatives from the college and local employers will be on hand to discuss education, career and apprenticeship opportunities that lead to jobs in high-tech production facilities as well as the energy industry.

Northern Kentucky manufacturers are expanding and have openings for highly skilled employees, said Craig Beesten, Gateway's Workforce Transitions coordinator. We work with employers every day who are looking for people with skills in welding, machining, industrial maintenance, electrical technology and related occupations.

According to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, starting salaries in such jobs range from $30,000 to $49,000 a year, depending on the occupation.

People attending the event will be able to tour the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and see the high-tech equipment used for training workers. Gateway also will provide complete admission and financial aid information as well as pizza and door prizes.

We will show veterans, parents and prospective students how they can easily enroll at Gateway and get a jumpstart on a great new career, Beesten said.
