Gateway Hosts Public At College Open House And Career Pathways Expo April 21 At Boone

Gateway Community & Technical College is opening its Boone Campus from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 21 and inviting the public to learn more about the educational opportunities the college offers.

The sixth annual College Open House and Career Pathways Expo will be bigger than ever, enabling prospective students, parents and the public to learn more about to enroll at Northern Kentuckys only publicly supported, regionally accredited two-year college.

Representatives of 16 local businesses and industries also will participate to discuss what types of jobs they offer and the educational background required to build a sustainable career. College staff members also will provide complete information on admissions, financial aid, placement and professional testing, career resources, campus safety, student organizations and student employment programs.

Expo participants will be able to tour the colleges Boone Campus, including its new Center for Advanced Manufacturing Technology, which was recently highlighted on national TV news. The center houses advanced technical training equipment, including industrial robots, mechatronics simulators, an advanced welding lab and other electrical and hydraulic training stations used to teach students the high-level technical skills required in current manufacturing environments.

Businesses exhibitors include Atech Automotive Technology, Balluff, Inc., Bowlin Group LLC, Duke Energy, Emerson Industrial Automation, Gallatin Steel, Honeywell Building Solutions, Indy Honeycomb, Johnson Controls, Kelloggs, MAG Industries, Mazak Corporation, Owen Electric Cooperative, Schwans Global Supply Chain, Sheffer Corporation, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America.
Gateway will provide information on educational programs in advanced manufacturing, energy, nursing and allied health, criminal justice, fire science/rescue technology, and information technology. Advanced manufacturing programs include computer-aided drafting and design, electrical technology, air conditioning technology, plumbing, industrial maintenance technology, machine tool technology, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering technology and welding.

Nursing and allied health careers represented at the expo include associate degree nursing, Kentucky medication aid, practical nursing, massage therapy, medical assisting, medical information and nurse assistant. The expo also will provide information on programs and student services available through a federal Health Professions Opportunities grant that provides special assistance for low-income students.
