Gateway Grant Offers Tuition Assistance to Students in New Phlebotomy Program
Gateway Community & Technical College will begin a new program in phlebotomy in January and can provide tuition assistance as well as other benefits to qualifying students.Financial support is available to low-income students through the Health Profession Opportunity Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Tuition assistance and other services may be available to TANF, KTAP, or Pell-grant eligible individuals, or to those living within 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines.
The one-semester phlebotomy program trains students to take blood samples in hospitals, blood banks or clinics. Students who successfully complete the program will sit for a national certification exam at the completion of the course. The median salary for a phlebotomist in Northern Kentucky is about $29,000 a year.
