Gateway Expands Pearson VUE Competency Test Offerings Related to Allied Health Professions
The Assessment Center at Gateway Community & Technical College has added three new categories of Pearson VUE professional competency tests related to allied health professions.
Pearson VUE is a world-renowned testing service that provides high-stakes exams through a comprehensive, global network of testing centers that include Gateway's Assessment Center.
The new tests, which we began to administer this month, significantly broaden the professional licensure and certification tests that we offer to the regional healthcare industry, said Cindy Sproehnle, Assessment Center director. Being able to take these tests locally is not only a big advantage for healthcare professionals but also assists healthcare providers in identifying the most highly qualified associates.
The new tests include certification and competency exams offered by American Medical Technologists and HIT Pro. AMT exams now being offered include those for medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, medical lab assistants, medical assistants, medical administrative specialists, phlebotomy technicians, dental assistants, allied health instructors, and clinical laboratory consultants.
The HIT Pro exams assess the basic competency of individuals who are seeking to demonstrate their proficiency in certain health information technology workforce roles that are key to implementing and managing electronic health information. The exams assess the competency of health IT professionals to assess workflows, select hardware and software, work with vendors, install and test systems, diagnose IT problems and train practice staff on HIT systems. The HIT Pro exams are part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Workforce development program.
Having a local source for HIT Pro exams is especially important at the regional healthcare industry moves rapidly to adopt health electronic records technology, Sproehnle said. Were pleased to be able to offer these exams as part of our growing services in support of workforce development.
Gateway is administering the exams at its Assessment Center at the Boone Campus, 500
