Gateway Breaks Ground Oct. 7 for Professional Services Center

Another step in the development of the Urban Metro Campus of Gateway Community & Technical College will take place Tuesday with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Center for Professional Services at 440 Scott Boulevard. The brief ceremony will be held at the building at 3:30 p.m.

When opened in the spring of 2015, the center will house Gateway's Cosmetology and Massage Therapy programs in the same location for the first time. The programs will continue to offer cosmetology and therapeutic massage services to the public.

The new storefront location downtown will be much more convenient for the public and give our students even more experience as entrepreneurs, said Ed Hughes, Gateway president/CEO. These students will likely become small business owners so we want their education and training to simulate a business atmosphere.

The college is in the early stages of converting the building at the northeast corner of Fifth and Scott streets. EOP Architects of Lexington designed the facility to meet the needs of the two programs. Mark Spaulding Construction Company is the general contractor.

After the groundbreaking at 440 Scott, Gateway college and Gateway Foundation officials, along with local dignitaries, will proceed to the grand opening of the Center for Technology, Innovation and Enterprise at 516 Madison. The public is invited to both events.
