Gateway Approved For Associate Degree In Medical Assisting
Gateway Community & Technical College has been approved to offer an associate in applied science degree in medical assisting. The two-year public college was approved to offer the degree by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System board of regents in March.
The AAS degree replaces an associate degree in general occupational and technical studies in the same field.
We have offered credentials in medical assisting for several years, said Susan Chaney, Gateway coordinator of allied health programs. Being approved for the AAS in medical assisting not only expands the program but also provides employers with an improved understanding of credential requirements. That in turn helps our students when they apply for jobs.
The new degree can be completed in two years after any developmental needs are met. The program is offered at Gateway's Edgewood Campus, 790 Thomas More Parkway. For more information about the medical assisting program, contact Amber Carter at (859) 442-1712 or amber.carter@kctcs.edu.
Open registration for summer and fall 2011 terms for new students in any program of study is now under way. Contact the Admissions Office at (859) 442-1134 for information on admissions and enrollment.
