Gateway Announces New Nursing Faculty

Gateway Community & Technical College today announced changes in nursing faculty. Jill Bezold, RN, BSN, has joined Gateway as instructor of pediatric nursing. In addition, Rose M. Speier of Foster, Ky., has assumed additional teaching responsibilities.

A resident of Walton, Bezold brings 10 years of experience as a nurse or nurse educator to her new role. She previously served as a staff and chemotherapy treatment nurse at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, as a registered nurse in a physicians private practice, as a pediatric nurse at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital, and as a diabetes nurse educator at Cincinnati Childrens. She has also served as a volunteer at the Nurse Advocacy Center for the Underserved.

Bezold received an associate degree in nursing from Northern Kentucky University in 2001 and graduated cum laude from NKU in 2010 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. This fall, she will begin working toward a master of science in nursing education at NKU.

Speier joined Gateway in 2009 as clinical coordinator and nursing instructor. Beginning with the fall 2011 semester, she will teach mental health nursing and behavioral health nursing.

Speier is a NKU graduate with an associate degree in nursing. She also holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University and is working toward a master of science degree in nursing from NKU. Speier has 25 years of experience in nursing and nursing administration. She has served as a medical, surgical and psychiatric nurse, a charge nurse and case manager at the regions best known health care facilities, including St. Elizabeth Heath Care, HealthSouth Northern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital, Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport and Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia, Ohio.

Gateway's fall 2011 semester begins Aug. 15. Nursing-student admissions for the entering class of fall 2011 are complete; the application process for the class entering in January 2012 will commence in September.
