
Gateway and Community Agencies Sponsor Health and Wellness Fair Aug. 25 at the Urban Center
Gateway Community & Technical College and numerous community agencies will offer a Gateway to Wellness: Health, Wellness and Community Resource Fair on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Gateway's Urban Center, 525 Scott Blvd., in Covington.
The fair will offer health services and a wealth of information on community resources to assist not only with health and wellness but also employment, education, housing, childcare and similar topics.
On-site, no-cost mammograms will be available. Mammogram participants will receive a $10 Kroger gift card, compliments of the Northern Kentucky Womens Cancer Coalition. Those interested in a mammogram should call (859) 655-7400 to reserve an appointment for Aug. 25. Private insurance will be billed and all co-payments/out-of-pocket expenses will be paid through a grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The Hoxworth Blood Center will conduct a blood drive during the fair, and blood donors will receive incentives. People planning to donate at the fair should call 513-451-0910 to reserve a time.
Other health services available during the fair include free vision screening by the
Lions Club vision program and free, confidential HIV and AIDS testing.
Representatives of various community agencies will be on hand to provide information
on housing, employment, smoking cessation, nutrition, childcare, temporary assistance,
mental health services and much more. Gateway volunteers and students will available
to discuss career education opportunities, particularly the programs and benefits
available under the new Health Professions Opportunities Grant, which offers tuition
assistance and help with the costs of books, supplies, transportation and childcare.
