Chaney Selected As New Horizons Outstanding Faculty Member At Gateway

Susan Chaney of Independence has been selected by her peers at Gateway Community & Technical College for New Horizons recognition as Gateway's outstanding faculty member for the 2010-11 academic year.

Chaney was honored along with representatives from the other 15 colleges in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and the System Office at an awards ceremony in May during the annual New Horizons conference.

There is no higher honor in KCTCS than to be selected by your peers for New Horizons recognition, said Gateway President/CEO Ed Hughes. We congratulate Susan on achieving this remarkable honor.

Chaney is an assistant professor and program coordinator of Gateway's Medical Information Technology/Medical Administrative Services program. She was nominated for her innovative work enabling colleagues to use Wimba Live Classroom technology to deliver online instruction to students.

Susan is not only technologically proficient and enthusiastic in integrating technology into classroom, but she also has been a major force in developing a new Electronic Health Records certificate at Gateway and in our successful application to offer an associate degree in Health Information Technology, said Laura Urban, vice president of academic affairs and provost.

A native of Cadiz, Ky., Chaney is a graduate of Midway (Ky.) College with an associate in arts degree and earned a bachelor of science degree in business education from Eastern Kentucky University at Richmond. She holds a master of arts degree in education from Northern Kentucky University. Chaney was an instructor at the Northern Kentucky Health Occupations Center, a Gateway forerunner, from 1989 to 1996. She joined Gateway in her current role as assistant professor in 2008.

Chaney has served in a leadership capacity on numerous college committees, is a certified professional coder, and has presented multiple professional development sessions for faculty on Wimba Live Classroom.
