AHEC Spotlights Health Careers Sept. 15
The 11th annual Health Career Showcase sponsored by the North Central Kentucky Area Health Education Center will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, September 15 at Thomas More College in Edgewood.
Students from northern Kentucky high schools can speak with practicing health care professionals, college faculty members and health care students about their respective health care professions. Many of the exhibits will include medical equipment and hands-on activities to allow students to try out the activities of the profession. The event is designed to introduce the students to career options in the health care field.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health careers represent 12 of the 20 fastest growing occupations between 2008-2018. Even in this recession, health care is expected to generate more new jobs than any other industry, largely due to the rapid growth in the elderly population.
The Health Career Showcase expects over 600 area students from 20 or more high schools to participate. The students will be able to learn about more than 25 different health care professions, as well as receive information about financial aid and other programs that promote health careers.
