700 Students Expected To Attend Health Careers Showcase Co-sponsored by Gateway
The North Central Area Health Education Center, an affiliate of Gateway Community
& Technical College, said today it expects more than 700 local high school students
from 18 schools to attend the annual Health Careers Showcase. The event is planned
for Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Thomas More Colleges Conner Convocation
Center.
The event will feature practicing health professionals, faculty members and current
students in more than 25 different health programs ranging from medical school to
medical massage. Each featured career will include hands-on activities for the students,
as well as career information and the necessary educational preparation.
Health professionals from St. Elizabeth Healthcare, the Northern Kentucky Independent
Health Department, and the Edgewood Fire Department will be available to talk with
students. Faculty members from colleges including Gateway, the University of Kentucky,
Northern Kentucky University, University of Pikeville College of Medicine, and Spalding
University will participate.
According to Bradley Persinger, showcase coordinator for the NC AHEC, the event is
designed to show students the huge range of careers in the healthcare field and the
expected job growth in healthcare. Many students don't realize there are numerous
areas in health that require only two to four years of education to earn a very good
living and help people at the same time, Persinger said.
St. Elizabeth Healthcare is a showcase co-sponsor, and other partners include Gateway
and Thomas More College.
