Gateway announces new scholarship for tri-state students

Published on Feb 14, 2019

Gateway Community & Technical College Foundation is sponsoring a new Tri-State Scholars Program, providing scholarship opportunities to prospective out-of-state students who qualify for in-state tuition.

This allows Gateway to be more intentional about expanding current scholarship offerings that currently focus primarily on Northern Kentucky residents. The intended outcome is to broaden Gateway’s outreach by offering a scholarship program targeted to students who do not qualify for existing programs, which will lead to more equitable access to Gateway’s educational offerings.

Officials from Cincinnati Public Schools and the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative took part in a ribbon cutting for the new scholarship.

This scholarship stemmed from partnerships between Gateway and Cincinnati Public Schools, Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, and the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. Officials from each partner organization were invited to publicly launch the program. Tianay Amat, Deputy Superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools, and Jorge Perez, CEO of the YMCA, were both present and took part in a “ribbon cutting” for the new scholarship.

“I am energized by the collaboration around the development of this scholarship program,” said Kristen Smitherman-Voltaire, director of diversity, inclusion, and community engagement at Gateway. “I’d like to thank the Gateway Foundation and our inaugural partners for their continued commitment to increasing access and removing barriers to higher education.”

The scholarship program provides access to educational opportunities to the entire tri-state region through scholarship support. Residents of the following Ohio counties qualify for in-state student rates at Gateway: Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren. Residents of the following Indiana counties qualify: Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland.

This scholarship adds to Gateways extensive portfolio of scholarship programs, the vast majority of which focus solely on Kentucky residents. Find all scholarship opportunities at Gateway here.
