Gateway partners with UK and the KY Transportation Cabinet to create new program
Florence, Ky. (July 26, 2018) — Gateway Community & Technical College’s Workforce Solutions division has partnered with the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to create a new Transportation Construction certificate program. The program focuses on providing opportunity to women, minorities, and historically disadvantaged populations at no cost to the individual.
“This partnership with Gateway and the University of Kentucky ensures that women and minorities interested in transportation work have every opportunity to receive the most up-to-date training," said Jamir Davis, Executive Director, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. "The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is committed to a diverse workforce, and we’re confident that this collaboration will be a valuable tool on the road to progress.”
The Transportation Construction certificate is a 96-hour program to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for successful entry into the Transportation Construction field.

Students in the program will take a wide variety of classes including First Aid Training, Commercial Driver License Exposure, Introduction to the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and Asphalt Paving Best Practices to name a few. Gateway Faculty, UK Faculty and instructors from the KY Transportation Cabinet will teach classes. All classes will be held at Gateway’s Transportation Technology Center located at 1051 Dudley Road, Fort Wright, KY 41017.
