Shay Olivarria to Speak Personal Finance at Gateway
Published on Mar 29, 2018
Financial education speaker, Shay Olivarria, will speak at Gateway Community & Technical College’s Boone Campus Thursday, April 5 at 6 p.m.
When Olivarria decided to improve her fiscal life, she had no idea where to start. After purchasing a few personal finance books, she realized that none of them were written for her demographic. Overwhelmed by financial jargon and concepts, she decided to write financial books that were easy for students to understand.
Gateway TRIO students utilize Olivarria’s book, “10 Things College Students Need to Know About Money.” Her book includes the topics of money attitude, compound interest, credit unions, retirement accounts, and credit, with humor and brevity.
Over the last 11 years, she has worked with everyone from elementary school students in afterschool programs and transition age youth to college students and young professionals.
To date Olivarria has written three books about personal finance, and she has been quoted on Bankrate.com, FoxBusiness.com, The Credit Union Times and CreditCards.com, among others.
Gateway welcomes the community to attend this event.
