Gateway Nursing Students Donate to Bright Days Child Development Center

Published on Mar 7, 2018

The Gateway Community & Technical College Student Nurse Organization (SNO) organized and collected donations from Gateway’s nursing department for the Brighton Center’s Bright Days Child Development Center.

“We decided to donate to Bright Days Daycare located inside the Brighton Center; we realize that every little bit we donate could help a child smile, laugh or create a memory,” said Tamara Arellano, Gateway’s SNO president. “Bright Days deserves recognition for their positive impact in the community and for changing the lives of children every day.”

Gateway’s SNO promotes development of the skills a student will need as responsible and accountable nursing profession. Members of the organization are liaisons for communications between students and faculty.

“It is very exciting to see the nursing students giving back to the community.  As nurses, we are charged with promoting health, alleviating suffering and caring for individuals, families, as well as communities,” said Melani Stephens Stallkamp, nursing program director. “By collecting donations for families at Bright Center, the students are role modeling the fundamental character and traits of the professional nurse.”

Bright Days Child Development Center is a nationally accredited, 3 STAR Rated learning environment for children ages six weeks to 12 years old at all income levels. Their goal is to ensure children are ready to learn on their first day of school. Bright Days enrolled 180 children last year.
