Gateway presented with award from Girl Scouts
Published on Nov 12, 2020
Gateway Community & Technical College was awarded a community recognition plaque from the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council for opening space for cookie distribution at the Transportation Technology Center in Ft. Wright, Ky.
The Girl Scout’s Erlanger Service Center was relocated, leaving the council without space to run the main cookie cupboard for all the leaders in the Licking Valley cluster.
This is the largest cookie cupboard in the council, serving over 300 troops, and more than 10,000 cases run through this cupboard during the cookie season. In 2018, this council sold more than 1,099,000 boxes of cookies.
“Gateway is grateful for this recognition from the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council,” said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, Gateway president/CEO. “We are happy to partner with a community organization taking great strides to create better lives for Kentuckians.”
The Girl Scout council staff reached out to over 25 potential new locations for a cookie cupboard before reaching out to Gateway. Gateway opened their parking lot to a 55-foot semi-trailer full of cookies and a camper to work from throughout the months of January through March.
“Their generosity allowed us to serve over 300 troops during the cookie program during 2019 and 2020,” said Linda Ramsey, Bluegrass Cluster chair during a virtual award ceremony on Nov. 7. “We are very fortunate to have this collaboration. It is our pleasure to recognize Gateway Community & Technical College with a community recognition plaque for their support of the Girl Scout Cookie Program.”
Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road one of 112 Scout councils nationwide and is headquartered in Lexington, Ky. The council serves over 8,500 girls annually from 66 Kentucky counties and one Ohio county. The Licking Valley is one of four clusters in the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council.
