Gateway President selected for Leadership Kentucky
Published on Jun 18, 2020
Gateway Community & Technical College president, Dr. Fernando Figueroa, was selected to the 2020 class of Leadership Kentucky.
In this program Figueroa will represent Northern Kentucky educators and bring the region’s education issues to the forefront with state-wide leaders.
Leadership Kentucky is one of the oldest and most prestigious statewide leadership development programs in the United States. The program joins Kentucky leaders, with a variety of career accomplishments and volunteer activities, so that they can gain understanding of the issues that face the state. Throughout the seven-month program, class members will meet with many of Kentucky’s current leaders and explore the state’s opportunities and resources.
Figueroa will be able to convey the message of success across the state that Gateway has experienced since he joined Gateway in 2016.
One success being how Gateway is helping the Council on Postsecondary Education’s (CPE) goal of 60 percent of Kentuckians having earned a degree or credential by 2030.
In the 2018-19 academic year alone, Gateway saw an increase of 56.2 percent in degrees and credentials awarded over the previous year. At the same time, the number of bachelor’s degrees at Kentucky’s four-year institutions remained essentially flat across the state.
“I’m excited to tout all the outstanding things happening at Gateway,” said Figueroa. “Through the work of our faculty and staff, I’m thrilled to report all of Gateway’s success.”
The 2020 class of Leadership Kentucky includes 45 participants from across the state representing a variety of public and private sectors.
