Published on May 19, 2020

As the region’s leading community foundation, Greater Cincinnati Foundation and United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s COVID-19 Regional Response Fund awarded Gateway Community & Technical College a grant to support its Student Emergency Fund and Food for Thought Pantry.

“We are grateful for the support we have received through this fund,” said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, President/CEO Gateway Community & Technical College. “As the COVID-19 lockdown continues, and our students remain in isolation, Gateway appreciates and values the infusion of money we received because of this grant. It means we can help even more students with food or assistance with their rent, utility bills, medication, or other emergency expenses.

Student requests for food or emergency assistance have increased by more than 25 percent since March, and the college is seeing students who never made requests before now having to utilize both programs. The college projects student will continue to seek emergency help throughout the summer.

Gateway Student Emergency Fund and Food for Thought Pantry are offered to students to help remove non-academic barriers, giving them the best opportunity to stay in school and complete their education or career training.
