How to Become a Software Developer

At Gateway, the best path is to pursue the Mobile App Developer Certificate. This certificate includes 18 credits and can be completed online.

You’ll learn the core skills to effectively develop mobile apps. In addition, this certificate also provides a way for professionals currently in the industry to update their mobile app development skills and for new students to progress in the CIT program.

Here's Your Starting Point!

Semester One:

  • CIT 105: Introduction to Computers (or the IC3 Examination)
  • MAT 061: Foundation of College Algebra (if needed). 

Semester Two:

  • CIT 120: Computational Thinking

Semester Three:

  • CIT 146: Swift I (or CIT 149)
  • CIT 149: Java I

Semester Four:

  • CIT 237: iOS Programming (or CIT 149)
  • CIT 238: Android Programming I

With the Programming certificate, you’ll learn the core skills to effectively develop programs using multiple computer languages. In addition, this certificate also provides a way for professionals currently in the industry to update their programming skills and for new students to progress in the CIT program.

This certificate includes 12 credits and can be completed online

  • CIT 249: Java II
