Gateway Community & Technical College will honor Learning Grove, Chuck Session, and Brian Watkins at the fifth annual Gateway to Greatness Awards Luncheon.

The event will be held at Drees Pavillion in Covington on April 14th, from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.

Learning Grove, a nonprofit organization dedicated to early childhood education, youth development and family support services across Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio, will receive the Community Champion Award in recognition of its lasting impact on families and its commitment to strengthening the region’s workforce pipeline.

Through high-quality early learning programs, after-school enrichment and family support initiatives, Learning Grove helps prepare children for lifelong success while enabling parents to pursue education and careers. Its mission closely aligns with Gateway’s commitment to student success and community advancement.

“Learning Grove’s work is transformative for our region,” said Gateway President Dr. Fernando Figueroa. “By supporting children and families, they are building a stronger future workforce and creating opportunities that extend for generations.”

Chuck Session, this year’s Individual Champion, will be recognized for his distinguished career and longstanding leadership in Northern Kentucky.

Session is widely respected as a visionary leader whose career has spanned decades of service in business and community development.

Known for his strategic insight and commitment to regional growth, he has played a key role in advancing economic development initiatives and strengthening partnerships across the Northern Kentucky community.

Throughout his career, Session has remained deeply engaged in civic leadership, supporting organizations and efforts that enhance quality of life, expand opportunities and drive sustainable growth. His dedication to service and leadership has left a lasting imprint on the region.

“Chuck Session’s leadership and service have helped shape Northern Kentucky into what it is today,” said Figueroa. “His impact can be seen across our community, and we are proud to recognize his contributions.”

Brian Watkins, this year’s Outstanding Alumni Award recipient, will be honored for his achievements following his time at Gateway. A proud member of the Class of 2023, Brian earned his Associate in Applied Science in Computerized Manufacturing and Machining from Gateway.

Today, he serves as a Team Lead at Mazak, where he continues to demonstrate leadership, skill, and a commitment to excellence in advanced manufacturing.

“Brian Watkins represents the promise and potential of Gateway graduates,” said Figueroa. “We look forward to celebrating his accomplishments and the impact he is making in his field and our community.”
