Gateway Offers Professional Development For Medical Office Personnel
The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community & Technical College will offer a two-part workshop on customer service and HIPAA regulations for medical office personnel on two Thursdays in April.
The workshops will be conducted April 7 and April 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. Attendance is required at both sessions for successful completion and to earn a certificate of completion. Total cost for both sessions is $125. Deadline to register is Friday, April 1.
The Customer Service session on April 7 will teach participants to use a customer service grid to assess their skills and also teach them verbal and nonverbal communications techniques, as well as listening skills. This session also addresses how to handle customers who are angry or upset.
The HIPAA review on April 14 will cover HIPAA goals, recent changes to HIPAA rules
due to the ARRA 2009 HITECH Act, and discuss significant changes in policies, procedures
and processes involved in an organizations handling of medical records.
The workshops will take place in Room 208 of the Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Center at Gateway's Edgewood Campus at 790 Thomas More Parkway.
