Gateway and NKY FAME Welcome New Apprentices

Gateway Community and Technical College and the Northern Kentucky Chapter of the Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KYFAME) welcomed 24 new apprentices to the Advanced Manufacturing Technician (ATM) program at a signing event hosted on Gateways Boone Campus.

The 2016 NKY FAME apprenticeship cohort signed letters of intent and were recognized by Mike Hirsch, chapter president of NKY FAME and Dr. Vic Adams, interim president/CEO of Gateway and participating NKY FAME companies, Bosch, Club Chef, Diversified Structural Composites, Eagle, HAHN, Krauss, Maffei, L'Oreal, Mubea, Nucor, Perfetti Van Melle, Safran MBD, Skilcraft, Stober Drives and ZoteFoams. This is the second cohort to go through the program. The first began fall 2015.

Students will complete an innovative curriculum that incorporates skill training and general education courses related to the region and industry. In this program, they learn hard and soft skills that make them desirable to employers and successful in their fields.

Tuition, books and fees are covered by the sponsoring company. Apprentices are also paid at least $12/hour for part-time hours worked and receive on the job training and mentoring.

Students selected for the program, and signing today, will begin classes in the fall 2016.
