Paramedic application

Dear Future Paramedic,

Thank you for your interest in the Gateway Paramedic Program. The program is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation (CoAEMSP) and is approved by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Paramedic Exam.

Paramedic classes will begin Tuesday, January 15, 2019, will be held on the Gateway Edgewood Campus, and will complete December 2019. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm with some labs to be announced. Students will be required to complete clinical rotations through a wide variety of pre-hospital and intra-hospital settings. These can be completed weekdays during business hours, evenings, or on weekends. Students may obtain a certificate in EMS-Paramedic and/or an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in EMS-Paramedic and financial aid is available.

All students who apply to the paramedic program are required to complete the paramedic application, have a current EMT-B certificate by the first day of class, be accepted into the college (if not currently a student at Gateway, see instructions below regarding applying to the college), possess a current CPR card, and have a valid driver’s license.

After acceptance into the program, you will receive an Acceptance Packet. Students accepted into the program must provide documentation of all immunizations and vaccinations (flu vaccine is required in order to attend certain clinical rotations), have a TB skin test, have a physical exam form signed by a health care provider verifying that an applicant can perform duties, pass a criminal background check, and meet with the Program Coordinator prior to the first day of class (all of this information will be explained in your Acceptance Packet).

Anatomy and Physiology (BIO 135) or equivalent (an equivalent course is a 4 credit hour Anatomy and Physiology with Lab) and Medical Terminology (AHS 115) must be completed. These courses may be taken prior to the start of paramedic courses or during the paramedic program.

Applications for the paramedic program are being accepted from now through August 1, 2018. Individuals will be notified of acceptance within one month of receiving the application. If you have questions, please contact us.
