If you enjoy helping others look and feel their best and enjoy working with a wide range of people, cosmetology may be the career for you. Cosmetologists provide hair, scalp, facial, nail and other personal care services. The cosmetology industry in Kentucky is regulated by the state Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists. Applicants must meet board requirements for admission, and graduates must pass a state board examination to become a licensed practitioner.

Emerge is a Gateway Community & Technical College student run enterprise open to the public. Students on the floor working with Emerge clients have been through extensive training and are under the supervision of talented educators. Emerge provides services at a lower price point for clients, and gives students the opportunity to build confidence and hone skills before graduation.

Career Opportunities

You may work as a stylist or cosmetology instructor. Cosmetologists are employed by beauty salons, spas, stores that sell cosmetics, and nursing and other residential-care homes. Many cosmetologists start their own businesses. Instructors are employed at cosmetology schools. At Emerge Hair Studio & Spa, students will have opportunities to meet salon managers/owners who are seeking talented stylists. They will also begin building a client base while learning and working at Emerge and gain the confidence needed to be successful in any cosmetology career.
