Costs and Financial Aid

Work and Learn

The Work and Learn program promotes the success of Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) recipients who are:

  • in adult basic education trying to obtain their GED, or
  • high school graduates needing basic skills remediation prior to enrolling in college.

Work and Learn enables you to gain work experience while earning up to $7.25 per hour at 20 hours per week. This income does not reduce your K-TAP income. The Work and Learn Program also assists with referrals to community resources, job placements that meet KTAP work component requirements, & job readiness training.

When you become a Work and Learn participant, we help you:

  • Assess career goals and choices
  • Complete the Department of Community Based Services Verification forms (enrollment, employment, housing, income, etc.)
  • Receive funds to pay for GED testing
  • Transition into college (enrollment and financial aid processes)
  • Meet and network with peers

We can work with your K-TAP case manager to find funds for additional needs.

  • Childcare
  • Car repair funds
  • Interview attire

The program is a collaboration between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
