About

Meet Aaron

After getting involved and exceeding all expectations, Gateway turned his opinion of college life into a positive one.

Aaron's Story:

I enrolled at Gateway in the fall of 2008 and am planning to graduate in May of this year with an Associate degree in Information Technology. My brother-in-law introduced me to computers, and since then I’ve been fascinated with them.

Gateway was not quite what I expected from a college experience. Before I began classes, I expected the faculty to be impersonal and that they wouldn’t have the time to help me. But Gateway changed my opinion of college. The instructors want to get to know you. They don’t just help you and support you because they have to, but because they actually want to.

Gateway is a great starter college that can prepare you for a larger school after you graduate. But to get the full experience while you’re here, you have to put into it what you want to get out of it. Getting involved helped me become more outgoing and make friendships with other students that I know will last a very long time.

I am currently in my second term as President of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. I never considered myself to be a leader at much of anything, but with the encouragement of my instructors and fellow classmates, I ran for President and was elected—twice! Through my experience not only with Phi Theta Kappa, but at Gateway in general, I’ve learned how to be a leader, work well within a team, and to make the best out of every situation.

My advice to any future student considering going to college is don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid to go for what you want, or to ask questions. People are always there to help you, and especially through Gateway, you can be the better person you want to be.
