Meet Chris

He benefited from the networking opportunities at Gateway as the first Gateway student to participate in a Disney World internship.

Chris' Story:

I knew that after I graduated high school, I was going to attend college somewhere. To be hired in most jobs now, it is required that you have some type of higher education background. I toured various campuses and ultimately decided on Gateway. I love that not only is it close to my home, but everyone involved with Gateway is a real family. Students, faculty, and staff are constantly pushing you to get the best possible grades that you can. The campuses are small, and it makes it very convenient to get from class to class.

I heard about the Disney internship through a few instructors, and from postings around campus. I thought it would be so interesting to be able to travel to Orlando, make new friends, face new obstacles, and take advantage of new possibilities. It was an easy decision to apply, and I was so thrilled when I was chosen to represent Gateway as the first student to participate in this internship.

I spent the entire summer working at Disney World with students from all over the country. It was a unique experience all around. It was my first time really being away from home, so budgeting money and surviving on my own was a challenge. It was such an experience to make friends and work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Disney World is such an awesome place to work and without Gateway, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to partake in something like this!

The Disney trip was a great kick-off to my last year at Gateway. I graduate this May and I’m excited to begin the next chapter in my life. I hope to obtain an full-time office career and eventually pursue further degrees at a university.
